Dr. Deniz Topcu

Board Member, Founding Member

Dr. Deniz Topcu entered the field of law in 2004 and has focused all her academic studies on intellectual and industrial property law within the context of commercial law.

Her first major work was a book on Industrial Property Crimes, where she evaluated infringements of industrial rights such as trademarks, patents, and breeders' rights, along with the sanctions imposed when these infringements constitute crimes.

Following various research, articles, and other academic studies in the field of intellectual and industrial property, she conducted research at UCLA (University of California, Los Angeles) on patent rights, a topic that was rarely discussed in Turkey at the time. She later published her book on Patent License Agreements and completed her doctorate. This study highlighted the value of patent rights, the compulsory licensing system, and the key elements to consider in drafting patent license agreements.

After completing her doctorate, Dr. Topcu began serving as a faculty member at several universities, a role she continues to hold.

In addition to her theoretical work, she has been actively involved in addressing practical issues in the sector. As a trademark and patent attorney, she has participated in every stage of the comprehensive management of intellectual and industrial rights, from the identification and registration of rights to their protection. In her capacity as a lawyer, she has also managed various legal proceedings aimed at safeguarding these rights.

Dr. Topcu continues to focus on the less visible aspects of intellectual and industrial rights, such as breeders' rights and the patenting of agricultural technologies. She works on enhancing the development and legal visibility of these issues in Turkey. She also provides consultancy services to rights holders, assisting them from the identification and registration of rights to their expansion on a global scale.
